In an unprecedented showing of solidarity, the three largest rugby clubs in Pittsburgh joined together to watch some fantastic international rugby competition. Players, coaches and alumni from the Pittsburgh Harlequins and Pittsburgh Rugby Club joined the Pittsburgh Highlanders at their sponsor bar, Claddagh Irish Pub, to watch the first round of the Six Nations Championship this past Saturday, February 3rd. The clubs were joined by rugby supporters from all over the city to watch one of the most highly regarded international rugby tournaments in the world. Attendees were treated to two unbelievably tight games as Scotland was able to upset Ireland 27 – 22 and England narrowly defeated France 19 -16. A portion of the proceeds from the event went to the Highlanders, a federally registered 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, who organize and promote the event every year.
If you’d like to join in on the fun and enjoy the best rugby atmosphere in the city, you’ll have your chance when they host their second event on Saturday, March 18th. This weekend will be the final weekend of the tournament and all three scheduled games will be held on Saturday, including the bitter rivalry match of Ireland v. England at 1:00 pm. Other matches that day are Scotland v. Italy at 8:30 am and France v. Wales at 10:45 am. Cover is $15 with $5 staying local to support the Highlanders. There are a number of food and drink specials available throughout the day.
